Target Drones for CUAS Development and Tests
TDRS: A Strategic Partner for Next-Generation UAS and Counter-UAS: The rapid evolution of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) has fundamentally changed modern warfare. Recent conflicts have demonstrated that inexpensive, highly capable drones now provide persistent intelligence, electronic warfare, and precision strike capabilities while dramatically increasing battlefield tempo and lethality. As a result, the Department of War has significantly expanded investment in Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS), advanced autonomy, AI integration, and realistic operational testing to counter these emerging threats.
For more than thirteen years, TDRS has supported this national priority by providing realistic, threat-representative Group 1 through Group 3 unmanned aircraft, flight operations, engineering, and operational expertise to the Department of Defense, DARPA, and many of the nation's leading defense contractors. Rather than simply supplying aircraft, TDRS enables the development, testing, validation, and operational assessment of next-generation C-UAS technologies under realistic battlefield conditions.
I am Major General (Ret.) Toney Stricklin, former Commanding General of Fort Sill and the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence, where I served as the Army's Fires proponent for cannons, rockets, missiles, counterfire, UAS, and Counter-UAS. Following military retirement, I founded TDRS to provide the realistic threat aircraft and operational expertise required to support emerging defense programs. Since then, TDRS has manufactured, integrated, and operated hundreds of unmanned aircraft supporting developmental testing across major DoD ranges throughout the United States.
As adversary threats evolved and Chinese export restrictions eliminated access to the widely used Mugin platform, TDRS successfully transitioned to the larger, more capable Osprey platform. The Osprey offers significantly greater payload capacity, endurance, mission flexibility, and growth potential while supporting multiple configurations, including VTOL, hybrid-electric propulsion, satellite communications, electronic warfare payloads, and mission-specific sensor integration. This ensures continued availability of realistic Group 3 threat aircraft for current and future government programs.
This combination makes TDRS an ideal strategic partner for numerous prime defense contractors. Together, we can strengthen proposals, reduce technical and execution risk, enhance customer engagement, and successfully pursue high-priority UAS and C-UAS programs, and next-generation military training efforts.
